Friday, Sept 26, 1pm, Birkhead Wilderness Hike

Kick off the weekend with a hike in Birkhead Wilderness!  The hike will begin on the Hannahs Creek Trail off SR1107.  We will leave the parking lot on a level path and at 0.4 miles turn right onto the Hannahs Creek Trail.  The trail goes through a tall oak and holly forest before crossing Robbins Branch at about 1 mile.  The trail will then follow Hannahs Creek to an intersection with the Birkhead Mountain Trail at 1.8 miles.  We will retrace the trail from here for a total of 3.6 miles.  See: http://www.mobilemaplets.com/thumbnails/12026_thumbnail-1024.jpg.  Low clearance cars, especially the Prius, will bottom out on the parking lot access road. Please let us know if you think this will be a problem for you.  There will be creek crossings, but the water level should be low.  Use this address for GPS: 5569 Lassiter Mill Rd, Asheboro, NC 27205.  This should take just over two hours.  Hikes in wilderness areas are limited to 10 people.  Leader: Henry Fansler (Foothills)
